ABC Banner Refresh

Submitted by Linda
In August of 2009, I covered chipboard with cute paper to create something to hang on my sideboard for "back to school". I hung the ABC on my grapevine with twinkle lights and added an apple garland that I usually used at Christmastime. Even then, it seemed kind of 'blah', but I didn't know what to add.
After seeing the banner pictured below, made for Michelle by our friend Carrie, I remembered that I had bought (months ago), some paper made by Graphic 45 ABC Primer Collection, specifically for the purpose of upgrading my wimpy ABCs.
The papers were more distressed and vintage-y than my primary ABCs, so I set out with a brown ink pad and a sponge to distress them. I also changed out the bright ribbons for muted seam bindings and linen thread. I love the little clock brad. That little clock (originally printed on the paper) fit perfectly into the "build a brads" that I already had in my stampin' stash.
Then I chopped apart the papers and began layering papers with vintage ephemera (pins, lace, buttons and brads).
I attached all of it with tiny clothespins and Stampin' Up's new scallop tulle in the Crumb Cake color.
I added a different apple garland, and voila! Much better!
